A Masterpiece of Ancestral Architecture

Description

The image captures the impressive stone masonry of Cliff Palace, the largest cliff dwelling in North America, located within Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. Built by the Ancestral Puebloans between approximately 1190 and 1260 CE, this multi-story complex features over 150 rooms and 23 kivas (ceremonial chambers) tucked under a massive sandstone alcove. The site showcases the remarkable engineering skills of the inhabitants, who used shaped sandstone and mud mortar to create a secure community integrated directly into the natural canyon walls.
